Costa Rica is characterized by its fauna and flora, being one of the most biodiverse places on the planet. We can find numerous forests, mangroves, reefs, valleys, rivers... and above all a great animal life.
It occupies 5% of the total world biodiversity. In its territory there are around 1,077,305 hectares, in which there are around 27% of protected areas: sanctuaries and wildlife refuges, forest reserves, national parks, forests and an archaeological monument.
It is estimated that there are more than 10,100 trees and plants in the entire area of Costa Rica, highlighting more than 1,250 species of orchids, more than 35,100 species of insects, 165 species of amphibians, more than 200 species of mammals, more than 850 species bird's…
In 1992 Costa Rica became the general center of the so-called Council of the Earth.
Multitude of Ecosystems
Today in Costa Rica there are 12 different ecosystems of eco-forests, mangroves, various tropical areas... You can also find different types of species of both animals and very rare plants and many of these species are in danger of extinction. It is worth noting the numerous species of sea turtles: we find the velvet, hawksbill, quetzals...these are some of the species that unfortunately are about to disappear.
